Bowl of caldo de rez, La Nueva Casita Cafe's signature soup.Wintertime is made for eating soup and the caldo de rez  ~ a beefy vegetable soup  ~ at La Nueva Casita Cafe is one of the most satisfying in Las Cruces. Hunks of carrot, potato, celery, beef on the bone, with corn, cabbage, and cilantro in HOT white broth and a BIG bowl.

Oh, yes, that’s what I’m talkin’ about.

What does La Nueva Casita Cafe’s signature soup come with?

Comes with savory Spanish rice and your choice of corn or flour tortillas on the side.

I chose corn ~ something about the aroma of lime with the corn that soothes me even before I taste it. The experience is even better when the tortillas are warm ~ as these were.

The caldo, rice, and tortillas are altogether a hearty meal for under $10, tax included.

Best of all, the ambiance rocks because you’re surrounded by other hungry and happy-to-be-there people.

So go. eat. soup. at La Nueva Casita Cafe.
