Learn more about Hurd and his mural, The Future Belongs to Those Who Prepare for It, at the Artesia Public Library.

The late Peter Hurd, a 20th-century artist born in Roswell, New Mexico, earned acclaim for his paintings of the American Southwest.

Hurd made the grassy plains of Southeast New Mexico his lifelong home and his portraits and landscapes pay tribute to the people and the places he knew there.

Hurd’s mural, The Future Belongs to Those Who Prepare for It, is one of the grandest of these.

Seeing it for the first time was an ab-so-lute-ly amazing experience.

Now it’s your turn.

Find The Future inside the Artesia Library, the most beautiful library in New Mexico. (Seriously, a group of architects got together and voted on it. So there.)
